Ecommerce: PCI Compliance and PCI DSS:

PCI (Payment Card Industry) DSS (Data Security Standard)

PCI DSS are strict security guidelines for handling all credit card data by online ecommerce users and was created by the Payment Card Industry. These rules apply in varying degrees to any ecommerce web site that takes and handles credit card information online.
The best/first thing to do if you take credit cards online is contact your merchant provider and ask them about PCI DSS, specifically if you process enough credit card transactions to mandate your following the rules for compliance.

To find more information about what is entailed in becoming compliant, check the pci standards web site:

https://www.pcisecuritystandards.org/security_standards/pci_dss.shtml

If your merchant provider informs you that you need to be compliant one of the things on your checklist will be having a scan run of your site - we can provide you with that service. Just open a ticket and let us know.

PCI Compliance - Other Options:

Some people find the road to compliance more trouble and cost than they want to pursue and look for alternatives. If ALL credit card information is processed off site by another provider such as PayPal then compliance is no longer an issue. You can still take credit cards and offer the same product options you would just need to convert your current shopping cart to a PayPal cart.
If you are interested we do provide a service to convert your current catalogue and shopping cart to a PayPal solution. Open a ticket for more info.
