If you want to use web pages that are capable of passing information to and from your users in a secure fashion, then you need a secure certificate. This enables you to utilize the security of up to 128-bit encryption designed to prevent anyone from intercepting the information passed to and from your website when accessed using https.

With a secure certificate installed on your domain, the web server encrypts/scrambles the information sent to your users, who are the only ones with the key capable of decrypting/unscrambling and viewing the information. This capability is particularly useful for ecommerce or other sites that may handle private or personal data. You can either purchase your own secure certificate for your domain, or use our server certificate - directions for both options are listed below.

If you want to order a GeoTrust secure certificate for your own site, here are the steps you need to follow:

NOTE: When ordering a certificate you must choose the name. Some tools (shopping carts for example) require "www.domain.com" while others only work with "domain.com". If you are using our CARTXPRESS cart you do NOT NEED the "www," so leave the box blank. If you are using another shopping cart check with the cart maker.

If you need to order a certificate for a resold or subaccount please ask Support to add the GeoTrust icon to the relevant account control panel to simplify your ordering and installation.

Begin in the Control Panel of yourdomain.com
Click on the GeoTrust QuickSSL icon
Generate Your Certificate Signing Request (CSR) and keys (click "HERE")
Fill-out the form with the correct information. You'll need to select a password during this process - make sure you write it down or remember it.
Click on Generate Certificate Request Data at the bottom of the screen
This will generate a Certificate Signing Request [CSR] and an RSA Key. The CSR looks like this:

Next click on "Return to GeoTrust Secure Certificate Manager", and select the same first "HERE" link to review your certificate request files. We strongly recommend that you make a back-up copy of the CSR and RSA Key (and password) - cut and paste the information into any text editor on your PC and save. Make sure there are no extra spaces or returns!
Go back to the Return to GeoTrust Secure Certificate Manager and follow Step 2 there - "Order your GeoTrust QuickSSL" (click "HERE"). This is where you can select the length of the term you wish to purchase, and provide some basic contact details.
GeoTrust will contact the email address(es) you have supplied for verification - just follow the simple instructions in the emails you receive.
After confirmation, GeoTrust will send your certification in the body the final email. It will look like this:

Copy and paste this into a text window (Notepad, etc.) and save.
Return to the GeoTrust "Quick SSL" Manager in your control panel, and proceed with Step 3 - "install the certificate HERE." Paste in the certificate from the previous step and enter.
That's it! Now you call any file from within your html pages, scripts or browser securely using:

https://yourdomain.com/file.html
